On May 24, members of the Wimauma High School class of 1957 gathered for a class reunion. Nineteen of the original 39 classmates attended the event held at the Ruskin Woman’s Club. Many brought their spouses and children to meet their old friends and classmates. The class of 1957 is significant because they were the last class to graduate from Wimauma High School. From 1958 on all high school seniors who attended public high school graduated from East Bay High School.
Good food and good times were shared among the grads along with the happenings of 46 years. As the grads reacquainted themselves, they discovered some had not ventured far from home, others had moved across the country while a few had left and then returned to their roots. One thing they all agreed upon was how they had changed since they were students at Wimauma High School. They couldn’t believe it was possible they were considered seniors and in many cases grandparents. Where had the years gone? Those who attended had such a good time the decision was made to meet on the third Saturday in May, 2004, instead of waiting for the 50th reunion. Hopefully those who missed this year’s reunion will be able to attend the 47th class reunion.
