Plant Good Seeds | |

Some years ago I hauled automobiles on a tractor trailer. It was two layers high, so it required a lot of hydraulic cylinders and a pump to move the different decks where the cars were placed and secured. Occasionally there would be a malfunction or problem with that system. I looked in the yellow pages and found a company after one of these problems occurred. The company was a one man operation. He was local and available to render the services I needed. We started a business relationship and a business friendship. I used his services for quite awhile, then I changed to a type of trucking which had no hydraulic needs. I did not see or talk to him for probably 8 or 9 years. This last week, at my new job, I needed his expertise again. I called, he came and we renewed our relationship. After he corrected my connection mistake and we chatted, I asked what the charge would be. He said: Oh there is no charge, I was on my way home and I was happy I could help you out. A service call for this type of service I suspect would be valued around $200. I was astonished and offered again to pay him for his services but he declined. I believe that those many years ago, I managed to plant good seeds and this week I harvested that crop and renewed a valued business friendship. In turn he replanted good seeds that will mature to a good harvest for him. I felt compelled to share this story with you, simple as it was. My fathers words, many years after his passing still rings true in my ears. My "View From the Road" this week, gave me a renewed faith in humanity and an understanding of just how wise my father was. | |
