On this day, April 3, 1928, in chamber history, the founders met to review the progress of the various committees assigned to bring this organization together. Several other topic's were discussed (some of which are quite insightful) and I have listed them below. A membership card was proposed and adopted for all members, the card read as follows: The following pledge shall be taken to remain a member, or join the Chamber of Commerce in Ruskin. I pledge in honor to support the Chamber of Commerce in all of its undertakings when such undertakings shall have been ordered. I will work for harmony and good will among the membership. I will do all I can to create good will and cooperation in Ruskin and the country generally. It was moved to authorize the secretary to communicate with a doctor in reference to locating in Ruskin. A $7 bill was presented to paint a sign for the building and a $5 bill was presented to purchase letterheads, both bills were paid. A letter was read from Mr. Bush, superintendent of A.C.L.Railroad referring to the beautification of the railroad station grounds and the opening of the South Street crossing. It was moved, that the chamber, create a fund for the apprehension of chickenthieves and other unsavory sorts, and that 50 percent of the fund be referred as a reward for the arrest and conviction. The remaining 50 percent to be used to secure competent council to aid in the convictions. Also moved and seconded was a motion to ask all of the civic organizations throughout the state to join the chamber in this effort to stop thievery. I've said it before and I'll say it again, "times sure have changed." However the commitment of the volunteers in our community have not. I am so proud to work for an organization dedicated to continued good will in Ruskin. The members, board of directors and volunteers of the Ruskin Chamber of Commerce understand the need to make Ruskin a better place to live and work. Finally, the SouthShore Fishing Tournament was quite a success! TECO, South Bay Hospital, and the Tampa Tribune teamed up with Bob's Machine Shop, Cargill Crop Nutrition, Mariner's Club, T.A. Mahoney's, Alligator Bob, Artists: Joyce Lazzara and Craig Todd, and the Ruskin Redneck Trading Company to make this years tournament the best yet! Charles Darcy, Phil Oley, Miranda Kelly, Captain Art Paiva, Jim Johnson, Billy Simms, and Gary Baldesarre volunteered their time and resources on the tournament committee, thank you.
