Riverview eyes playoffs after Leto win
5 Sharks make All-Conference
By STEVE JACKSON
The Riverview Sharks concluded a successful regular season last week by beating Leto 7-4. The victory put the Sharks’ regular season mark at 16-7, with 5 of those losses by 1 run. The Sharks went 5-3 in District 6 play and open the first round of the one-and-out playoffs May 7, versus district-rival Bloomingdale at Plant City. If Riverview wins, the Sharks would most likely go up against the powerful Plant City Raiders on PC’s home turf May 9 at 7 p.m.
Riverview took the season finale over Leto thanks to a 5-run fourth inning. Senior night at home started in a big way as the game was tied 2-2 when the Sharks’ Matt Masse led off with a triple. He scored on Cameron Vigh’s single to give Riverview a lead they would never surrender. The outburst continued with a passed ball and a bases-clearing double by Ty Correa. Correa had 2 hits for the night, and MacAllister Jorgensen, Ben Migliarese, Dillon Besnier, Adam Hunt and Jeremy Galen all contributed hits.
Post-season honors have already started flowing to the Sharks. Last week junior Jorgensen and senior Bubba Herrick were named to the first team all-conference. Selected for the second team were seniors Besnier, Masse, and Migliarese.
