Riverview Flag Football continues to roll Log 2 wins at One Buc Place
The Riverview Sharks Flag Football team has played two and won two games at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ facilities at One Buc Place. Earlier in March, the Sharks played Jefferson High School and beat them 35-6. On March 2, the Sharks beat Godby High of Tallahassee and won 33-26. Godby was pre-season ranked #3 in the 1A classification.
In other games, Riverview faced #7 Bloomingdale in a tough District 2A-6 match up. This was a rematch to last year’s 2A-6 District final game in which Bloomingdale won 7-0. Riverview was down 6-0 at halftime until QB Madysen Carrera completed a 16 yard TD pass to Senior WR Stephanie Garcia to tie the game. Carrera ran in the extra point to give the Sharks a 7-6 lead. A late interception by Garcia sealed a 7-6 win.
Also, the Sharks rolled over district rival and #13 ranked Newsome with a 34-0 win. Carrera scored 4 total touchdowns with 3 passing and 1 rushing. Carrera is now only 14 TDs away from having over 100 career touchdowns in her four years as a Shark. Garcia was able to set a new school record with 129 receiving yards, which included a 52-yard touchdown from QB Bree LaPanne. This was LaPanne’s first varsity touchdown of her career and Garcia’s second touchdown of the night! Seniors TaNia Clark and Jasmine Cox both caught touchdown passes from 13 and 9 yards respectively.
