John DePace
John DePace, 95, passed away in Houston, Texas on February 28, 2019, and will be buried at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 S.W. 102 Ave., Bushnell, FL 33513.
John previously lived in Marion, Mass. and Sun City Center, Fla.
He is survived by his children Dale Pfefferkorn of Cypress, Texas, John (Stephanie) DePace of Hollister, Calf., Susan DePace Shaikh of Allen, Texas, Michael (Linda) DePace of Mattapoisett, Mass., grandchildren Daniel and Khadija Pfefferkorn of Larkspur, Colo., Douglass and Amanda Pfefferkorn of Houston, Texas, Raabia and Asad Shaikh of Allen, Texas, Anthony and Louis DePace of Mattapoisett, Mass., and great-grandchildren Sarah and Adam Pfefferkorn, Maxwell, Rebekah, Nathan and Robert Pfefferkorn of Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by Marcia DePace his wife of 32 years; Ione DePace his wife of 32 years and the mother of his children; sister, Virginia Witham; brother, Francis DePace; and son-in-law Donald Pfefferkorn.
His favorite pastimes were playing poker and pool with friends, playing 1930s-1950s music on his clarinet and most of all playing on the Cape Cod Old Timers Soft Ball League and pitching on the Seniors Softball World Series teams between 1990 – 2002, where you had to be 70 years old to play on the team. He was especially proud when his picture made the front page of the New York Times Sports Section as the most valuable player.
John was Vice President of Norfolk County Trust Company and President of the Norwood County Chamber of Commerce when he retired. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945 and fought in World War II in the Battle of the Bulge.
