September is chock full of events
This is going to be a September to Remember! Looking at the schedule of upcoming chamber events, I think you’ll find something for everyone. We’re going to kick off September with our monthly coffee, courtesy of David Miller at AAA. Members can join us on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 8 a.m. in their office at 4868 Sun City Center Blvd. It’s a great way to jump start your day with breakfast and networking before you head off to the office. Then we move on to something a little unusual.
These days, everything has its own day. I personally like kitten day, ice cream day, cookie day and pizza day. The challenge is to see if you can get any of these items for free on “their” day. Other than the kittens, you probably can — and should try.
The week of Sept. 10 is National Chamber of Commerce Week. At the chamber, we’re going to honor this auspicious week with an open house on Wednesday, Sept. 12. It’s only right that we get our own day…and you get stuff for free.
So, here’s the deal. You’re invited to drop by the chamber from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. to find out about all the advantages of chamber membership and how it can work to promote your business. Stop in for refreshments, the chance to win raffle prizes and the opportunity to talk with chamber members and volunteers who can share their own chamber experiences.
Moving on, our monthly lunch is taking us on a little road trip. On Thursday, Sept. 20, our host is Beth-El Farmworker Ministry. Members and guests can meet us at 18240 U.S. 301 S. in Wimauma for lunch and plenty of networking while we learn more about the ministry from the Rev. Kathleen Dain. Remember to RSVP to the chamber office. Admission is $12 for members and $15 for nonmembers.
We’ll wind up the month on Sept. 27 at Little Harbor for our Business After Hours where we’ll kick off our honorary Mayor’s Race. Any members wanting to throw their hats into the ring to become our next honorary Mayor, this is your chance. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you didn’t read last week’s column. In a nutshell, we’re looking for our 2019 honorary Mayor. After throwing their hats into the ring, candidates will compete for the coveted sash and crown, which he or she will proudly wear to all chamber events. How do you win? By hosting events to raise money for your favorite charities and the chamber. This mayoral race is the only race around in this election year that encourages you to “buy” your votes. Every dollar raised equals one vote. Give me a call if you missed last week’s column or have any mayoral questions.
I’m looking forward to seeing you in September.
