Executive Director, Sun City Center Area Chamber of Commerce

When people ask me how things are going after a few weeks into my job as the new executive director of the Sun City Center Area Chamber of Commerce, the word that comes to mind is “honored.” I’m truly honored to have been selected for this position and have enjoyed every day of my short tenure.

While learning operational details like where to find file folders, why there’s a key for the trash bin and how to arm the security system, I decided what I really needed to do was take a step back from my search for supplies to meet chamber members and our Sun City Center area residents. People are in and out of the chamber all day long with questions, suggestions and sometimes just to say “Hi.”

My goal is to listen. Already I have learned about many local priorities, opportunities and challenges. Some of these conversations have unearthed incredible solutions and others are the basis for solutions yet to be determined.

The bottom line is I’ve seen firsthand how the community and chamber can work together to proactively connect chamber professionals with their peers and the community. I intend to keep listening as long as you have anything you want to share. My office door at the chamber is always open.  Stop in to say “Hey” any time.

In the meantime, I would like to invite members and prospective members alike to our upcoming events. Every chamber event from our monthly morning coffees, luncheons and Business After Hours to our weekly Brown Bag Networking lunch provide quality networking opportunities. At these gatherings, chamber members are focused not only on growing their own businesses but also providing referrals to their fellow members. It’s the perfect win-win situation.

Your next opportunity to join us is our monthly Golf Cart Poker Run on Friday, Jan. 5, from 1 to 3 p.m. We’re looking for members to be golf-cart stops as well as residents to join us in a quest for the best hand. Refreshments and prizes always follow, and there’s great fun to be had by all.

For more information, call Dexter Charles or one of our hardworking volunteers at 813-634-5111.

This Sun City Center Area Chamber of Commerce is an organization with a long history of community involvement, and its board and I plan for a strong and dynamic future. I hope to see or hear from you soon.
