Nine sisters and friends of Delta Tau Lambda collegiate and alumni sorority gave up their Saturday morning June 17 to benefit some four-legged friends. Among other efforts, the nine women happily mopped floors, washed towels, cleaned kennels and scooped poop at the Critter Adoption & Rescue Effort no-kill animal shelter in Ruskin.
“We’re a service organization, so we seek out volunteer opportunities like this one,” said Paula Gutierrez, group spokeswoman. “We’re all animal lovers, so we agreed to come out and do whatever the shelter needed. If it hadn’t been Father’s Day weekend, we would have had many more volunteers.”
Their hard work was truly appreciated, said CARE board member Joann With.
“It was such a great help,” she said. “As a small shelter, we have a limited number of volunteers, and we don’t have the resources to hire people to do these types of things. They enjoyed themselves so much, they said they’d come back and spend another day with us in the future.”
