Make your mother proud and shop locally

Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 14, so I hope by now you’ve given some serious thought as to how you will celebrate your mom.
If you haven’t decided yet, our Greater Riverview Chamber members have some great products and services I’m sure Mom would enjoy. While she’d undoubtedly most appreciate your spending time with her, she also might like a gift certificate for a one-hour relaxation massage at Quality Life Massage Therapy.
If your plan is to send Mom flowers, both Oops A Daisy and Bay Bouquet have excellent selections of fresh flowers, plant gardens and gift baskets. Also keep in mind The Basket Case and ABC Event Planning offer specialized, themed gift baskets to meet anyone’s budget.
Why not consider sending Mom to her happy place by giving her some time away from it all? Our friends at K&B Travel, Simply Travel or AAA can certainly make that happen. If that’s not in your budget, consider visiting Southshore Uncorked, where you’ll find some unique blends of wine and creative, wine-related gifts. Then there’s Pinot’s Palette and Painting with a Twist, either of which could help Mom release her inner artist. Both offer painting sessions where she can create a special art piece while enjoying a nice glass of wine.
If your mother is the adventurous type, consider taking her over to iFLY and Sky Zone. Captain Oliver O’Riordan, with Tampa Fishing Charters, offers some lovely sunset cruises.
Is she a golfer? Then give Summerfield Crossings Golf Club or Topgolf a call. If she enjoys an arcade or bowling, then The Alley is calling her name.
Does Mama like movies? Riverview now has two great movie theaters, Xscape and Riverview 14 GDX. I can smell the popcorn now!
Mom may prefer simply staying at home and relaxing. If so, consider renting a bounce house or water slide from A Party 2 Remember. This will help keep the kids entertained and outside, while Mom puts her feet up for some quiet time.
Think beyond the normal, folks. Spend some quality time together, have fun and make memories you will both cherish.
And if your mother has passed on, like mine, honor her by enjoying time with family and friends.
