Plein air painting reception
‘Honoring the Open Range’
On Saturday, April 22, there are free activities planned for the closing reception of “Honoring the Open Range: Memories Through Art, the Work of Jerri Phillips.” The event is free and suitable for all ages. The schedule is as follows:
• The park opens at 9 a.m., and the exhibit is on the second floor of the Wiggins Store. The paintings depict Florida cow hunters, cattle and images of the open range.
• From 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., artists will paint en plein air around Manatee Village.
• At 2 p.m., artist Jerri Phillips, president of the Parrish Arts Council, will speak about what inspired her artwork and her artistic process. This will be in the 1887 church.
• Around 2:45 or 3 p.m., at the conclusion of Phillips’ presentation, light refreshments will be served on the front porch of the Wiggins Store.
The reception is at Manatee Village Historical Park, 1404 Manatee Ave. E. (S.R. 64), in Bradenton. For more information, call Kathryn Rohlwing at 941-749-7165.
