Last week for four days in perfect March weather, it was horses, bulls, steers and barrel racers in Arcadia for the 88th annual Arcadia All-Florida Rodeo Championship. This was not just a backyard, fun-in-the-sun rodeo; this was a big-time rodeo that cost the cowboys and cowgirls hefty entry fees. Participants are vying for national points that will allow them to compete at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas at the end of the year. There are millions of dollars at stake for these athletes to take home from Las Vegas, so competition is fierce.
This year’s stock was provided by the Frontier Rodeo Company and the bulls came from Oklahoma. Two of the bulls were used last year in Las Vegas and became Bull Of The Year.
The rodeo and the town of Arcadia had a very family-friendly atmosphere, along with country, apple-pie-attitudes that made for a great afternoon.
