Kevin Brady, a well-known contributing writer for The Observer News Publications, is facing one of life’s most difficult challenges — the loss of his wife to cancer. As medical bills have mounted, a Brady family friend has opened a fundraising account on Gofundme.com, seeking assistance for their son’s college education, hoping to help realize a parent’s dream for her child.
On his Facebook page, Brady said, “I normally don’t talk about things this close to home but it’s been a rough few months for us. Thank you to a friend out there who created this.”
The gofundme.com site reads as follows:
Facing her final struggle after a brave fight with cancer, LeeAnn Brady has one wish: to know that her only son will have the means to attend college.
A straight-A student in the eighth grade, Patrick’s goal is to attend college and become a teacher, a dream his mom was unable to realize in her own educational journey.
LeeAnn nevertheless rose to the top of her profession through innate intelligence, hard work and a winning personality, all of which her son has in spades.
LeeAnn had provided for Patrick through a life insurance policy at work, but this policy lapsed after she left the company to start her own small business in March. Two months later she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. The family’s savings have also been virtually wiped out by medical bills, and the debt is rising.
Before LeeAnn passes on, the family would like to establish a small college fund to ensure that her final wish will come true – that Patrick will attend college.
Any donation is deeply appreciated.
The fund is seeking to raise $10,000, an amount that, while relatively small considering college costs, is intended to provide a measure of comfort and assurance to LeeAnn Brady during this difficult time.
