At the April 15 Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners meeting, commissioners voted to approve a license agreement between the county and Apollo Beach Waterway Improvement Group, better known as ABWIG.
The agreement allows for county funding of up to $50,000 for channel dredging and a beach renourishment project at the Apollo Beach Nature Park, which has been closed for renovation and for the creation of a breakwater to help prevent both erosion and sediment refilling the channels into the community.
ABWIG thanked all of the commissioners but singled out Commissioner Sandra Murman as being instrumental in securing the agreement, after having met with ABWIG volunteers and organizers numerous times over the past few years.
According to ABWIG, the agreement brings them another step closer to “the Dig” and to bring a beach back to Apollo Beach.
