Lorinda Gibson
Lorinda (Linda) Hamilton Gibson of Sun City Center, Fla., passed away on Jan 24, 2015, at her home. She was 96 years old and had lived in Sun City for 10 years.
She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of the late Earnest and Anna Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, John C. Gibson, and infant son John David Gibson.
She was a graduate of Bryant & Stratton Business School in Buffalo. Before her marriage, she worked at United Motor Service, a division of General Motors. After raising four sons and being a stay-at-home mother for 30 years, she went back to work in Chappaqua, N.Y., as a real estate office manager. Upon retiring to Flat Rock, N.C., in 1974, she worked as an office manager at Haile & Haile Realty, then at the Henderson County Travel and Tourism center in Hendersonville, N.C., until she retired in 2000 at age 82.
She is survived by sons Robert Gibson (Jane) of Riverview, Calif., Thomas Gibson (Sylvia) of Bradenton, Paul Gibson (Mary Lou) of St. Augustine, and Philip Gibson (Penny) of Conroe, Texas; sisters Mary Weed of York, Pa., and Marge Grant of Houston, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She moved to Sun City Center in 2005 to be closer to family and became active in numerous community bridge groups. She was gregarious and outgoing, accumulating myriad friends throughout her lifetime, all of whom she closely nurtured. She was often and fondly referred to as “Mama Linda” by many of her friends.
She radiated peace, kindness and love like no other. We should all inherit her joy. She was a shining example of all that is the best in womanhood and parenting. Her secrets to happiness were to always look at the bright side of life, always say something good about others, and always laugh.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of her life at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City Center on Friday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to LifePath Hospice, 12470 Telecom Drive, Temple Terrace, FL 33637. She will be interred with her late husband in Hendersonville, N.C., at a later date.
