The 4th Annual Alpha Idol karaoke competition has come to a close with the winner announced last weekend, Sept. 26. Eric Schlichtl, holding the trophy in the front row, garnered the most votes and received the golden microphone and $500 from Alpha Pizza-Pasta-Prime, Apollo Beach. The annual contest was held on six consecutive Friday nights, Aug. 22 through Sept. 26.
Twelve performers were chosen during the first four Friday contests by ballots cast by customers. A panel of three judges took it from there, and on Sept. 26, after a two-song sing-off by the remaining six contestants, the winners were announced.
“I just love the energy of this competition,” said first-place winner Eric Schlichtl, whose day job is at Hewlett Packard. Schlichtl collected his $500 prize and Alpha Microphone from Alpha Pizza owner Nick Egarhos.
