Back in 1988, the organizers of the original Trick or Treat Street were attempting to create a safe place for children of all ages to have fun while participating in the Halloween tradition of trick or treating. They could not possibly have envisioned how successful their idea would become.
A quarter of a century later, more than 100 local businesses, churches and civic organizations are expected to participate in this year’s event, scaring up treats, thrills and family-friendly fun for tens of thousands of children and their families.
Trick or Treat Street will be held on Saturday, October 19 from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Riverview High School. The event is presented by the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation & Conservation and Riverview High School.
New to the event this year will be a hayride and a magician to entertain the crowd. In addition to the numerous booths, there will also be a costume contest for children of all ages as well as a costume contest for dogs. A small entry fee is required for the contest.
Admission to the event is free. Wristbands will be sold for a nominal fee to include unlimited play on bounce houses and other inflatable attractions. Parking is $5 per carload. Various clubs from Riverview High School will also be offering games and activities for a small fee as fundraisers.
