RUSKIN — St. Vincent de Paul of East Hillsborough County hosted a back-to-school event on Thursday, August 15. The event was held at the St. Vincent Thrift Store located in Ruskin. Backpacks and school supplies were given to children in grades K-8.
The backpacks and school supplies were donated from parishioners at Prince of Peace, St. Anne and St. Stephen Catholic Churches. Over 100 backpacks were distributed to children, mainly from the Ruskin, Sun City, Gibsonton and Wimauma areas.
St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic charity that assists the poor and disadvantaged. The East Hillsborough District is made up of volunteers from St. Anne, Prince of Peace and St. Stephen Catholic churches. Over 100 volunteers in the area assist families-in-need with food and financial assistance including rent and utility support, and one-time emergencies. The volunteers also visit the sick and elderly in the local area.
The Society operates a Thrift Store on 3rd St. in Ruskin, directly behind St. Anne’s Catholic Church. The store is open Monday through Saturday. All proceeds from the store go directly back into the local community. Hundreds of families in the East Hillsborough County area are assisted by St. Vincent each year.
