SUN CITY CENTER — With an overcast sky that, had it been 40 or so degrees cooler may have brought forth snow flurries, dozens of golf carts lined up for the community’s annual Christmas parade. It was a party-like atmosphere complete with seniors, children, dogs dressed as reindeer, and carts decorated in degrees ranging from simple to the simply wild.
Of the 42 golf carts in the parade, Chris and Vicki Robinson took home the Best Original Design Award for their Kings Point Express. The New England Club won the Best Cultural Depiction Award for their Covered Bridge golf cart, the Wisconsin Club won the Best Holiday Theme Award for their Wisconsin Cheesemobile (complete with human reindeer in Wisconsin sweaters, a Green Bay Packers cheerleader and a sign unabashedly stating that Santa loves Wisconsin best), and the Best Portrayal of the Sun City Center 50th Anniversary Award went to Ernie Cuzzi for his beautiful and elaborately decorated cart featuring a manger scene on top (had there been a tallest cart award, he may also have taken that home as well).
The parade route included LaJolla and Cherry Hills Drive and ended at the Community Association Central Campus. At the conclusion of the parade, hot chocolate and cookies were served to approximately 250 people on the Central Campus lawn.
